Why is it called Oyakodon?

Oyakodon itself, is actually a donburi or Japanese rice dish served in a bowl. when translated, this oyakodon means parent and child donburi. so called, because there is chicken and eggs and white rice served in a bowl.What is Oyako? 1. child. 2. boy.

Ingredients (1/2 Of Original Recipe)

  • 125 gr boneless chicken thighs
  • 2 chicken eggs
  • 1 scallion
  • 1/3 of an onion

Sauce

  • 1.5 Tbsp Kikkoman Soy Sauce (Japanese Soy Sauce)
  • 2 tbsp mirin / 1/4 tbsp sugar (me: 1/2 tsp sugar)
  • 1/2 tsp hon dashi / dashi powder *gives umami taste* (me: 1 tsp mushroom stock)
  • 50 ml of water
  • 1/2 tsp pepper (me: skip)

How to make

  • 1. Heat the pan, then pour in the water, Japanese soy sauce, sugar, and mushroom stock.
  • 2. After boiling, add the chicken thigh pieces, then back and forth so that the chicken is cooked perfectly
  • 3. After the chicken is cooked, add the onions and scallions
  • 4. When the onions are quite wilted, pour in the eggs, then cover them until they are done to desired doneness. Remove and serve with hot rice.
